Halloween Night Targeted Ops and Curfew Impact Monitored Sex Offenders

An off porch light.

This Halloween night, the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services (SCDPPPS) will once again enforce a statewide curfew for sex offenders under its supervision, whose crime is against a child.

The restrictions for all child sex offenders on probation, parole, and other types of community supervision under the jurisdiction of SCDPPPS are as follows:

  • Statewide Curfew: 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Halloween, October 31st
  • This applies to all persons under supervision for a sex offense whose crime is against a child. (Note: This does not apply to all registered sex offenders, many of whom are no longer on probation or parole and therefore not under the jurisdiction of SCDPPPS.)
  • All actively supervised sex offenders are instructed to remain at home during the restricted timeframes and will be under surveillance checks conducted by Agents during home visits on Halloween night.
  • Child Sex offenders have been notified to:
    • Have no porch or exterior lights on outside of their houses;
    • Make no candy or treat distribution;
    • Remain inside their homes and participate in no Halloween parties or carnivals.

Please note that these restrictions apply only to those convicted of child sex offences and under the jurisdiction of SCDPPPS.

Last year’s Halloween night statistics:

  • 560 sex offender residence checks performed across all SC counties
  • 151 additional offenders reported in to SCDPPP staff at an assigned location
  • 4 arrests made
  • 6 cell phones collected as possible evidence
